Choose a template

I suggest you use the template supplied by this website for this exercise.

If you didn't like the boring look of this template, you could use the template with the banner. Remove the header and footer codes, replace the banner with your choice of header image and you'll have a most interesting template.

The reason is this: that would be easier for you to follow me, to make your own website.

I'll show you my way of coding which I feel is an easier of coding pages, a faster way of building pages.

If you'd completed the template designing execise, this page building would even be easier.

XHTML & CSS now, HTML5 later

You see, you don't have to learn all the HTML and CSS codes to code a page.

To code a page, we only need to use a few basic codes.

We'll start off with coding in html for a few pages. Later, we'll add in CSS and XHTML.

You could choose HTML4 if you wished to. Whichever you choose, we all will be switching to HTML5, which eventually, will be the industry standard

No WYSIWYG editor needed

But if you prefer using your favorite web authoring editor, please do so. Unless you are still struggling with it, then you may want to consider the hand coding method.

I am showing you a way of coding markup that you won't be tied down by any operating system to in future.

Whether you will be using Windows, Mac, Linux or any platform of your choice in future, you need not download another free of buy another similar HTML editor for a different OS. Any text editor that comes with your system should do the job.

Once the template is in place, you'll be filling in the content with just the <p> </p> and the <hx></hx>

With occassional boxes for either images, quotes, additional comments and advertisements, filling in content is really just filling in the blank.

Let me show how easy this could be done.

Now, let's move on to build our very first page in step one of build your own website.
