A collection of articles on how to read guitar tabs ...

How would you love to be able to play the like the pros? Just pick a up and play any song that you hear. However, in order to get to that stage, you need to put in some effort of your own. There are many decisions to make when you are trying to learn to play the guitar. One of these is to decide where and how you intend to get your playing information. There are many places that offer good programs. However, there are those that cheat you of your money as well. So what do you look out for to avoid this situation?

1. Proper documentation

How many of us have been cheated when buying online? Most of the time, we are unsure if what we're buying really does what it says it does. Therefore, to ease your mind, make sure that the program of your choice is certified. For example, if your choice is an online program, make sure that program is certified by an online certification group like Fair Trade Authority.

You may ask what the Fair Trade Authority is. Simply put it is an online body that seeks to protect both the buyers and sellers in online transactions. They also set up a code of ethics for both parties to refer to. If disputes arise between these two groups, the FTA tries to mediate without favoring any side. Therefore, you can be rest assured that if you do face any problem with your program, the FTA can try to resolve the issue for you.

2. Get a professional

Your instructor has got to be a authority in his field. So what do you do to check out whether his credentials are genuine or otherwise? Carry out an investigation. Check out his background. Check out his documentation. Check out what his ex-students got to say about him.

Why are you doing this? You need to re-assure yourself that you indeed have got a professional as your instructor. In this way, you'll feel confident taking up lessons from him. If you've ever taken driving lessons before, you'd know that your driving instructor is an expert in his field. The same principle applies here.

3. Organized lesson plans

Lesson plans that are well-structured also contribute to a good quality program. When lessons are well-planned, you will be able to absorb whatever you need to learn in a shorter space of time. This is a more efficient and effective way of learning. This is imperative especially for the beginning guitarists.

Do not forget to take these into consideration when you are making your decision on which program to enroll into or which program to purchase. You are spending your own hard-earned money. Therefore, it's only in your own best interests if your choice of program has these practices put in place.

Its <a href="http://www.buffalobrosguitars.com/images21000-21999/ngb21904-martind28/1.jpg">modest appearance </a>belies its <a href="http://www.martinguitar.com/history/dreadnought.php?chptr=2">history and influence</a>; there have been several changes in its design and construction over the years, but it remains largely the same since its introduction in 1934. It is known as the standard by which all steel-stringed deadnought-sized guitars are measured, made by <a href="http://www.mguitar.com/">C.F. Martin &amp;</a> <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Guitars">Company</a> in Nazareth, Pennsylvania (now in their 175th year). Originally introduced with scalloped <a href="http://www.frets.com/FRETSpages/History/Martin/MartinBraces/martinbraces.html">bracing</a> to maximize bass response and volume in unamplified venues, the <a href="http://books.google.com/books?id=CJBgX2LnaUwC&pg=PT24&lpg=PT24&dq=scalloped+bracing+history&source=web&ots=Q2dui7wsqR&sig=gnr1MkkUdrBQXs1WUCPuJ9zeXxs&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=8&ct=result#PPT24,M1">construction and positioning</a> of the bracing moved away from the soundhole in the late 1930's, and the braces became non-scalloped in 1945. These changes served to strengthen the guitar in response to players' tendencies to use heavier and heavier strings to further increase volume. The only other major change in the construction of the guitar came in 1969 when the availability of highly-prized <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazilian_Rosewood">Brazilian</a> <a href="http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p312/JERMDADDY/Martins/d28authsides028.jpg">Rosewood</a>, used in the back and sides, became scarce enough to force the switch to the (widely-regarded as a lesser tonewood) <a href="http://www.hobbithouseinc.com/personal/woodpics/rosewood,%20east%20indian.htm">East Indian </a><a href="http://www.usd.edu/smm/PluckedStrings/Guitars/MartinGuitars/10770/10770MartinGuitarBack.jpg">Rosewood</a>. Due to their age (guitars are generally regarded to improve with sound as the get older), their construction and their rarity, the <a href="http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=yK8QZ7k8UAw">pre-war D-28 </a>is often referred to as a 'holy grail' of acoustic guitars. Models often sell for six-figure sums when they do appear on the market. Due to this demand, C.F. Martin &amp; Company construct a <a href="http://www.mguitar.com/guitars/choosing/guitars.php?p=z&g=h&m=D-28%20Authentic%201937">D-28 Authentic 1937 </a>guitar, made with the same methods and materials as were available in that year (including the use of <a href="http://www.inthewoodshop.org/2005/hideglue.shtml">horse hide glue</a>). Famous Martin D-28's in regular use include <a href="http://www.truecountry.com/hank/hnk9.jpg">Hank Williams' 1941 model </a>owned <a href="http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=Vv729NN57Q4">and still gigged </a>by <a href="http://www.thrasherswheat.org/2005/10/prairie-wind-companion-cd.html">Neil Young</a>, and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clarence_White">Clarence White's </a><a href="http://www.flatpick.com/Pages/Featured_Artist/Tony2.html">unique 1934 model </a>now owned and <a href="http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=9JFgC3Ub10E">played</a> by<a href="http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=PXRJIsjmTg4"> bluegrass</a> guitarist <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Rice">Tony Rice.</a>
